Uncommon Christianity
True Christianity has become uncommon to many believers. Uncommon Christianity is devoted to clarifying what the Scripture actually teaches and to dispelling the misconceptions and false teachings that have become widespread in the modern Church, calling believers back to biblical Christianity as revealed by Christ and His Apostles.

Before continuing our series on spiritual authority in the church, I want to pause and speak about something very important. Over the centuries the church has developed structures and systems that often look very different from the pattern we see in the New Testament. In this episode we step back and honestly examine how the church came to look the way it does today, and whether we may need to return again to the simplicity that is in Christ. The Pastor: God's Heart for Shepherding His People In this episode we explore the biblical role of the pastor and what true shepherding looks like according to the New Testament. In many churches today the pastor has become a professional position shaped by institutions, boards, and organizational systems. But the Scriptures present a very different picture. Pastors are not produced by human systems. They are gifts given by Christ to care for His people. Together we will examine what the Bible teaches about shepherding the flock of God, the responsibility to feed the church with truth, and the danger of leadership that becomes focused on reputation, numbers, and finances rather than the spiritual health of God's people. We will also look at the New Testament pattern of shared pastoral care among elders, and why shepherding was never meant to be confined to a single weekly message from one individual. Finally we will consider God's promise in Jeremiah that He will raise up pastors after His own heart who will feed His people with knowledge and understanding. This episode is part of the series True Spiritual Authority in the Church, where we are rediscovering the ministries Christ gave to build and strengthen His church.

In this episode we examine the role of the prophet in the New Testament Church. What is the difference between the gift of prophecy that can operate among believers and the office of a prophet that Christ gave to the Church? Looking at passages from 1 Corinthians, Acts, and Ephesians, we explore how prophetic ministry functioned in the early Church and how it relates to the apostolic foundation upon which the Church was built. This discussion helps us understand both the value of prophetic ministry and the safeguards Scripture gives so that the Church remains anchored to Christ and the truth already revealed in His Word. In this opening episode we begin examining the ministry gifts that Christ gave to His Church. The first gift listed in Ephesians 4:11 is the apostle. Yet today the word has become either misunderstood or misused. Some reject the idea of apostles entirely, while others claim the title without understanding the biblical meaning. So what is an apostle according to the New Testament? In this episode we return to the Scriptures to look at the apostolic ministry as it functioned in the early Church. We will explore the difference between the original apostles who were eyewitnesses of the resurrection and the broader apostolic ministry that Christ continues to give for the building of His Church. We will examine how apostles were sent by Christ, how they laid spiritual foundations, and how their authority was never about control or titles but about serving the purpose of God for the body of Christ. When we understand the apostolic ministry correctly, we begin to see how Christ Himself continues to build His Church through the gifts He has given. For nearly fifty years Peter watched prophetic words spoken over his life that never came to pass. In this deeply personal episode he shares two early experiences that shaped his understanding of the prophetic movement in the church, and the lessons he learned over decades of watching those words fade into time. This testimony raises an important question for believers today: how should we respond when someone claims to speak for God? In the next episode we will turn to the Scriptures to examine what the New Testament actually teaches about prophets and the prophetic ministry.

In this concluding episode of The Church and Her Calling, we gather everything we have studied — the Church’s identity, maturity, endurance, and corporate calling — and anchor it in the prayer of Jesus in John 17. Christ did not pray that His people would be taken out of the world, but that they would be kept from the evil. From that foundation, we walk through the New Testament to see how Scripture consistently presents a Church that endures, overcomes, and stands faithful at His appearing. This is not a call to escape history, but to be sanctified, preserved, and ready when He is revealed. If the Church truly belongs to Christ, she will face resistance. In this episode, we widen the lens and examine the systemic opposition confronting the Church today. Spiritual warfare. False doctrine. Religious systems that preserve form while losing life. Cultural pressure that seeks to redefine truth. Persecution in subtle and overt forms. And the quiet danger of internal corruption. This is not a message of fear, but of discernment. The Church’s conflict does not signal failure. It confirms calling. And when we understand the nature of the opposition, we are better prepared to stand in truth, holiness, and unity. The gates of hell resist — but they do not prevail. In this episode, we examine what Scripture truly reveals about the Church as the living Body of Christ. From Ephesians 4, 1 Corinthians 12, Romans 12, and the prayer of Jesus in John 17, we explore one body, one Spirit, and one shared life. This is not organizational unity. It is relational unity flowing from Christ Himself. We will see how diversity functions without division, how every member supplies, and how the goal of ministry is maturity into the fulness of Christ. If the Church is His visible expression in the earth, then her unity is not optional — it is divinely intended. In this episode, we move from defining what it means to walk in the Spirit to examining what that walk produces. If we are truly living from the revealed Word of God, there will be visible evidence. We focus on three defining marks of a Spirit governed life: humility, love, and stability — and we expose the forces that attempt to distort them. Where the Spirit produces humility, the enemy promotes self exaltation. Where the Spirit produces sincere love, the enemy offers counterfeit division. Where the Spirit establishes stability, the enemy stirs reaction and fear. Christ cannot be dethroned, but His expression can be obscured. The question is simple: What is being manifested through us? In this heartfelt and searching address, we step back and examine a serious question: When Jesus said, “I will build my church,” what did He mean? Christ did not redeem His people merely to gather weekly, nor to remain in perpetual spiritual infancy waiting for the next breakthrough moment. He poured out His Spirit and gave gifts to the Church for one purpose: growth, maturity, unity, and the full stature of Christ formed in His people. Are we being developed into functioning members of His Body? Or are we being kept in a cycle of anticipation without transformation? This episode is not an attack. It is an invitation. An invitation to look honestly at the current state of the Church. An invitation to examine ourselves. An invitation to return to Christ’s original objective: a mature, united people through whom the Kingdom is manifested. If you care about the development of the Church and the fulfillment of Christ’s prayer, this conversation is for you.
